1. Everything Everywhere All at Once
Almost like I've watched it 5 times. It's genuinely the best movie to ever exist, and I consider it a litmus test for people. I judge them if they cannot handle the absurdity. It's also obvious by people's reactions if they're only used to watching corporate movies that are more shallow, designed for shallower reasons. This movie is so much. It does everything right. It understands how people act, their shadows, their views. Every character is believable and relatable. It exaggerates everything SO WELL, it changed how I viewed live-action in general because it showed me how much a director could use angles, VFX, and SFX so STYLISHLY.
Watching it makes me feel like the directors are like me, watch the same animated shows, movies, and games that I do and added that into the visuals. It's so AMAZING BRAH. They also encapsulate the emotions so well, including the "failed/regretful" life that Evelynn has. Just thinking about it makes my chest ache. The way she acts and is written is so well done too. An Asian mother who is negative, not nice, and quick to anger, incapable of understanding (at first)... It's very relatable.
Jobu is amazing. So relatable, and I genuinely cry whenever she screams "STOP" to Evelynn in the parking lot near the end of the movie. She perfectly depicts growing up as a QUEER child 🙏 I'd have more to say but imma just say Stephanie Hsu deserved the Oscar, not that flop 🙏
2. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Second Movie)
They took everything in animation and made it into a movie to appeal specifically to me. After seeing so many shitty multiverse medias, Spider-Verse and EEAAO are the only ones that are just... not lame. I cannot exaggerate how much this movie feels like it is for ME, for my generation. The way Miles acts, the motions that he makes that are only specific to people that are like HIM, specific genres of people, like DAMN. Every character is like that too.
I'm so incredibly happy to see this genre of animation get more popular, one that is artistic, expressive, rather than Disney's sort of animated realism. The story is just perfect too, although RIP people who got no reading comprehension and cannot understand the Miles-Gwen-Hobie relationship. Cool.
From a character standpoint, they're all so GOOD. I love Hobie pretending to fall into that "Mindlessly chaos-hungry anarchist" persona. It's so well done. His voice is so insanely good, and each of his lines are too. HE'S FUNNY ASF. "It's propaganda, bruv!"
MIGUEL AND SPOT ARE SOME AMAZING ASS VILLAINS. I don't know how the writers somehow built up two separate villains who never interact so WELL. They're both done so well. Both of their fight scenes amazinggggggg
That's it for this. My only complaints are the sound design is-- odd? It's hard to hear certain things, and it just sounds out of balance at some points. Also, the movie clearly released unfinished, with all those edits they made (Why tf did they take out Gwen panicking after thinking Miles got buried by rubble??) and tried to rebrand it as multiverse. Also stop overworking your animators plzzzz.
3. La Haine
This movie is a bit big-brained for me, as a guy who is bad at analysis (again). But watching this is an EXPIRIENCE. THE ACTING. THE CHARACTER ACTING. AH. It's so insane. You are really watching "guys hang out" for 1.30hr and it's PEAKKK.
La Haine has the best acting I've ever seen in my entire bebito life. What were they feeding these guys? Their emotions, their speech, actions, timing, it all works. It's so satisfying. I honestly don't know how you can act in another movie after giving such a performance like this. Everyone on earth should aspire to have character writing half as good as this movie's.
I need to watch more movies
As you can see on the right, there's some music,, in the census mix, "open the gates" and "steel trot" are comissioned works! I'm happy with how they turned out!
Here's a link to the playlist itself, Thank you Ivan for making these! His insta ← !!Let us boogie
Hello, this is my first blog post! I'll try to add random things here, mostly related to my art progress or OC world. Maybe I'll add stuff about my life, but I don't want it to get super personal. I felt this was needed to just share my progress, and share some lore for some people that I don't personally tell it to. I'm aware there's a lot of filler text and images rn. I'll get to it soon! 😭
